“ I must say the disappointment of them being out of brisket was accurate. Decided to come back and boy am I happy that I did! The brisket is top notch. Almost as good as what I've had in Texas. Everything was good but the brisket was almost worth the wait!! ”
“ I was looking for some unique and incredible food places. I stumbled upon this one! If you love Texas BBQ then this is the spot for YOU! I ABSOLUTELY loved the ambiance from the signs down to the "Wanted" poster in the bathroom. Our server was incredible and has some great recommendations. I cannot wait to come back here again! They have takeout here as well. ”
“ This place is amazing. Best barbecue you will ever have. They have huge smokers outback where they cook all of the meat to perfection. They have a really interesting menu as well, with multiple selections of meats. Also, they have an incredible barbecue nachos... Which sounds weird at first, but is out of this world. The prices look high at first, but that is because the meals are designed to split with multiple people. It's family style. If you do things à la carte it is more reasonable. I would say the prices are slightly above the average barbecue place, but the food is worth it. The service is also very good. Many times the food is coming out right as you finish the appetizer, which is perfect. Very nice people. I will be back often. ”
“ First time here. Have wanted to try Hoodoo's for awhile so excited to finally go. Friday night and was seated right away. Forgot servers name but she was pleasant. Explained to us "first timers" the menu. We ordered every app they had except the jar of bacon which they were out of Wings: excellent!! That hint of smokiness was just enough to make these arguably top 3 in the area. And they were not dry! Nachos: had them with the pork and again a winner. Not skimpy with the toppings and put together correctly Brussels were also a winner. Poutine was average but still flavor-flavorsble. Did not order any of the individual meats but did have the Brisket grillled cheese and it was as delicious as it sounds. Mac and cheese also was very good! Here are 2 small things I would suggest to the owners 1. Corn bread. While good, it needs to be served with a little butter or hot honey on the side. It can be dry and needs just a little spread or dipping side 2. Fried Green Tomatoes. The only disappointment here. The idea of frying green tomatoes is to get that "tang" of the tomato's along with the breading. They cut the tomatoes SO thin, all your eating is breading. Please cut the tomatoes thicker. We will be returning! ”
“ Lucid was terrific. Ate at the bar again. Bisquet sandwich and fries. Great place and very reasonable. Big drink selection. ”
“ Do yourself a favor and eat Hoodoo Brown BBQ!! We have only eaten through their takeout section located outside of the restaurant, so I'll speak from that perspective. Wonderful and quick service (when you call ahead or order online). The guys at the window are friendly and knowledgeable. I've called and got great recommendations on different food pairings. The brisket is top tier! Juicy, favorable, delicious. The seasoned fries are so so good and crispy. Their sauces are also delicious. The mac and cheese is packed with flavor! ”
“ Had an ok experience at this restaurant. Truly a little disappointed that when we arrived and sat down at about 5 PM, the restaurant ran out of pork belly, which was the reason why my friends and I drove nearly 2 hours to get to this place in this nice little town and they ran out of Valley, which devastated me and was truly upset. Being a top sell item i I thought that they should've had a little more of their best sellers available. Truly upset and devastated that they ran out and that was the main reason why we took the long drive to the restaurant. Ultimately substitute the pork belly for something else which was OK definitely had a good time. Our waitress by the name of Ericka was very accommodating and very nice. It was just devastating to hear her say that they ran out of pork belly and nachos. It's kind of hard to determine the best time to arrive to the place to make sure that you are able to order anything off the menu with it being a Saturday night. Thought they would've had enough available for the customer. Ultimately, the atmosphere was very nice. It was very steady and we were taken care of. Totally debating if we should take that drive back to this restaurant because I truly want to try the pork belly. If you are in the area, make sure you call to make sure that everything on the menu is still available. Hoodoo, we will decide if we will make that trip back overall thank you for a great experience. ”
“ I'm embarrassed at how long it took me to visit Hoodoo Brown. I live an hour away, but I've been aware of HB's reputation as an outstanding CT BBQ spot for years. As I returned from a trip to the Hudson Valley, I saw the perfect opportunity to visit. I can see why HB has a vocal following. After circling a few times to park, the first thing I noticed was the impressive smoking operation right out front. A lot of towns seem unwilling to allow the presence of visible meat smoking, HB is lucky in that regard. The inside was cool and had appropriate decor for a high end BBQ joint. Service was very friendly. I was hoping they had some platters that would allow for sampling a number of different things for a set price, but the menu was mostly a la carte in that regard. I ordered a 1/2 pound of brisket, a 1/2 pound of Cracklin Pork Belly, a side of Interstellar potatoes, and a side of Apple Vinegar Slaw. I haven't had better brisket in CT. It had phenomenal texture. Not at all dry. HB didn't have to resort to any tricks to keep it moist. The liquified fat did that. Perfect bark. Flavorful rub. Huge strips that were a good mix of lean and fat. The brisket was awesome and I can't see visiting HB without ordering it. I respect the Cracklin Pork Belly, and it's so unique, I imagine it has some big fans. There's a soft easy to chew pork belly component. And a chewable hard candy-like pork skin component. I have not had this style before and the fact that HB was able to execute in this manner is impressive. However, I didn't completely connect with HB's version and I prefer pork belly I've had at at least one other CT spot. The Interstellar potatoes are a top tier CT BBQ side. I didn't catch the whole story, but they were something like au gratin potatoes and the potatoes may have been smoked in some way. A delicious side I haven't seen at other BBQ places. The slaw was well executed, but I could take or leave it. I prefer the slaw style of other places and I would try something else next time I visited. I'm glad I finally made it to Hoodoo Brown. I loved 1/2 of my order. I respect what HB did with the other half, but I'd prefer to explore more of the menu rather than order those things again. 4.5 Stars ”
“ Go-to BBQ in the area! At Hoodoo Brown, they truly put their heart and soul into their food. That's likely what landed them on the Cooking Channel! I recommend going with a group and trying one of their platters so you are able to sample a little bit of everything. It's a casual eatery, and for obvious reasons I wouldn't recommend wearing white My favorite items on the menu are the Hogzilla sandwich, and their Mac and cheese. The sandwich is absolutely massive, and for someone who can eat, I usually end up with leftovers to take home. If you're going in the evening on the weekend, be prepared for a bit of a wait. If you plan on having a late dinner, just keep in mind they do tend to run out of their most popular items. It's not very common to find barbecue like this in the Northeast, but if you're willing to give it a try, it certainly will not disappoint! ”
